Sophie Patrick - Therapist Psychologist English Expat Amsterdam Mental Health

Hello, I am Sophie, a British expat and Psychologist who has been living in The Netherlands for a number of years. I completed my Master's in Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2017 and since gone on to complete courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy.

I have a wealth of experience within the international community. I have lived and worked in Sri Lanka, The UK and now The Netherlands. I am aware that culture and background has an influence on our psyche and mental health. As an expat myself, I know how difficult it can be to feel at home somewhere new. I have a real interest and passion in working with expats and internationals from all over the world.

I have a number of years experience working with individuals who experience low self-esteem difficulties, anxiety (social phobia, generalised anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, OCD), depression, adjustment difficulties, burnout and AD(H)D.

I believe in creating a welcoming space where everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or sexuality, feels valued and understood. Embracing diversity is not just a choice - it's a necessity. When individuals know they can express themselves authentically without judgment, it opens the door to meaningful conversations and personal growth. In my practice, I'm committed to acknowledging and respecting the unique experiences of each person, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.

If you are an expat in Amsterdam or The Netherlands and believe that a culturally sensitive Psychologist like myself could benefit you, please don't hesitate to get in touch and find out more about how we can work together.

About Me

Approach & Credentials

Approach

I have always believed that therapy should be a safe space to explore, feel and process. With a background in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Focused Therapy, I use a well-rounded holistic approach that looks at how the past influences our present. Using behavioural and experiential methods, we will then look at how to begin challenging yourself to change. The majority of change is done outside of the therapy space, this is something to be mindful of when seeking out therapy.
